Research shows that shoulder injuries are common in softball pitchers but all players can get them. Throwing causes most shoulder injuries. Tendinitis and Rotator cuff injuries are common. Tendinitis is when the tissue that connects the muscle to the bone is inflamed. When you throw a ball or swing a bat you place stress on the ligaments, muscles, and tendons in the shoulder joint. Pre-season conditioning is used to strengthen the muscles and get them used to the stress they are getting ready to feel.
When you are just beginning softball it is very important to learn the right technique. Throwing the wrong way can result in immediate shoulder pain.
